Operation Principle
The torque from the driving machine is transmitted by means of a closed circuit fluid stream from impeller to the turbine .This fluid circuit is contained in a chamber which consists of the two running wheels, the delayed filling chamber and the coupling casing. A flow is necessary for a transmission of the torque and this is produced by a difference in rotational speed between the impeller and turbine ,which is known as slip. As a result of this slip the coupling warms up in operation .The constant filling turbo-coupling has a delayed filling chamber .When the coupling is stationary ,a portion of the filling collects in this chamber and this can only return to the main chamber via small bores when the coupling is started up .This arrangement provides an almost noload condition when the driving machine is started .This provides a considerable improvement in the torgue limits during startup
